Vickie Wheatley, Contemporarary Quilt Artist

Following in the footsteps of my mother and grandmothers, I began sewing at an early age, making everything from tailored clothing to camping gear, drapes, and upholstered items.  Over the years, the desire to create my own work grew. 

 

 After retiring from a career in teaching, I started to experiment with dyeing fabric and designing both fused and abstract art quilts. I fell in love with every part of the process!

​

 I look for ways to translate into cloth my reactions to the incredible structures and images I find in the world around me. More recently, I am creating quilts that show what I call our "inner architecture," the world of our thoughts and emotions. 

​

I live in Louisville, Kentucky with my husband, Jim.  We enjoy travel, especially to the southwest, bird watching, music, art, friends, and family.
