Vickie Wheatley, Textile Artist

I  am a textile artist who works mostly with hand-dyed cottons.  After retiring from a career in teaching, I started to experiment with dyeing fabric and designing both fused and abstract art quilts. I fell in love with every part of the process!

I live in Louisville, Kentucky with my husband, Jim. Together we collect artwork from local artists and from places we visit in our travels.

Color, shape, and line are my passions and I am always looking for a way to translate into cloth the incredible structures and images I find in the world around me.

Following in the footsteps of my mother and grandmothers, I began sewing at an early age, making everything from tailored clothing to camping gear, drapes, and upholstered items.  Over the years, the desire to create my own work became stronger and I now spend time designing art quilts, with the occasional break for quilts and Halloween costumes for our grandchildren!
